Fireplace Foot-print

Base/foundation: We recommend a steel reinforced concrete slab 140cm wide (face) x 120cm deep x 10cm thick. Absolute minimum dimension is 130cm x 95cm x 10cm which allows 5cm at each corner of the wood box.

Height: From foundation base to top of mortar chimney sections (standard configuration) approx 2.55m. Aditional chimney mortar sections available, as required, to suit any desired functional height.

Stainless steel chimney flue, shroud, cap, cooking surface and polished hearth are optional extra’s.

Component Fitment:

The fireplace can technically be used before the final plaster coat goes on but it is designed to have a thick rustic plaster finish to fill in and level out any size differences to the moulded component pieces.  Due to the moulded nature of the individual fireplace components the pieces won’t be square (so as to be able to remove them from the mould), this means that the rear of the fireplace will need some extra adjustment via grinding/filling.

Curing / Burn in:

The first 10 fires must be small in size to keep the heat low and limit the time from 1.5 to 3 hours, this is to ensure that any moisture/vapour trapped inside is allowed to dissipate slowly.  Moisture heated to quickly expands inside the concrete/fire mortar pieces.  Even after the curing/burn in period it is important to start your fires small and build them up slowly, especially if your fire has not been used for a period of time e.g. after Winter.  Hairline cracking is normal and unavoidable especially if your fires get too hot too fast.  This is not a problem structurally.  Concrete does have a mind of its own even if you go through the curing process properly.  Use of the hotplate etc. should be avoided till the above process has been completed, so no concentrations of heat occur.
